How Does Trust Wallet Work?
Few wallets have gained the trust of the crypto community like Trust Wallet. It’s an easy-to-use platform that connects to more than 100 blockchains while supporting 10M+ digital assets: cryptocurrencies, non-fungible tokens (NFTs), and even synthetic assets.
The wallet is available on both mobile and PC. Mobile users get an app, while Windows, Mac, and Linux users have a browser extension.
All versions are secured by a password that you create during setup. This password will be required any time there’s an attempt to open the application. It functions to prevent unauthorized access.
Trust Wallet is also non-custodial. So, users get their private keys, usually in the form of a seed/recovery phrase that is revealed after creating a wallet. This phrase gives the holder total control over the wallet.
On the flip side, however, having it means you’re solely responsible for your wallet. It’s up to you, and you alone, to secure it. And in case of an issue with the phrase, you’re the one to solve it. Neither customer support nor the wallet’s developers will be able to help you.
How to Recover Your Trust Wallet
If You Have Forgotten Your Password But Have Your Seed Phrase
If you lose your Trust Wallet password, the application is going to treat you like an unauthorized user. You won’t be able to open the application. You’re going to have to reset your password to access its assets.
Resetting the password shouldn’t be hard if you have your wallet’s seed phrase. This phrase consists of 12-24 randomly generated words that back up your wallet’s public and private keys. As such, it is taken as the ultimate proof of ownership of a wallet.
This is what allows you to bypass the password security measure. Using the seed phrase, you can create a new copy of your wallet and set a different password. You don’t even need to delete your Trust Wallet App.
Trust Wallet has a ‘Reset Wallet’ option on the ‘Enter Password’ screen. Selecting this option lets you erase your current wallet and set up a new one using your seed phrase. You’ll then create a new password that you’ll be able to remember better.
If You Have Lost Your Seed Phrase But Have Your Password
Trust Wallet gives you your seed phrase. This is the most important information you have on your wallet, and you must secure it. It is recommended that you write it down on a piece of paper and store it in a safe place.
Still, crypto owners regularly lose their seed phrases. This can be catastrophic if you don’t have the means to access your wallet. But if you have the means, i.e., your password, you can log into your account and transfer the assets to a wallet whose seed phrase you have.
You can also recover your original seed phrase. This is because today, Trust Wallet stores a copy of the seed phrase locally. Note that this is in the app, on your device, not on external servers, to ensure you’re the only one who can reach it.
You can view it at any time in the settings section as long as you have the proper authorization.
On the browser extension, all you have to do is open your application, click on Settings, and then on ‘View Secret Phrase’.
On mobile, tap Settings -> Wallets, then tap the three dots next to the account whose secret phrase you want to recover. In the next screen, under the ‘Seed Phrase Backups’ section, tap on ‘Manual’ to reveal your recovery phrase.
The wallet will ask for the password before revealing the phrase.
Once you have your recovery phrase, you can continue using the wallet stress-free.
If You Have Your Seed Phrase, but It’s Not Working
You may have your seed phrase, but every attempt to use it to recover your Trust Wallet is met with the error: ‘Invalid Mnemonic Phrase’. This means there is an issue with the phrase you’re trying to use. There are several potential culprits:
- You have the right words, but they are in the wrong order: To be valid, recovery phrase words need to be provided in the exact order they were given to you.
- A word that doesn’t belong: If as little as one word doesn’t belong in the mnemonic, it is invalid. Spelling mistakes also render the phrase useless.
Sometimes, you can spot the problem right away. But often, it’s not obvious. You can use open-source recovery tools to try and brute-force your way into the correct recovery phrase. This, however, has little chance of success if you lack technical expertise.

If You Accidentally Deleted Your Wallet/Data
